Impressive & proof Pimax is gaining adoption! Awesome find. Would have been a great thing to back on a KS.
Looks interesting and very similar to a product I should be testing on my channel soon, the WalkOVR system… IDK if you can jump with that one though. Either way I have this idea that something like this coupled with a treadmill that allows for forward motion only when the user walks and is not solely motor driven could be a very effective way to trick the brain into the feeling of infinite free walking in VR!
Check your Email. WalkOVR recently pushed out an update. Marco has had an advanced unit from them.
AgileVR for legs thus far seems to have currently better leg capture to movement vs Walk & Kat atm.
Mocap functions on both Walk & Kat are delayed.
WalkOVR may start shipping begining on Dec 5. Kat I have gone on hold as backed 2 units & there having some challenges getting extra sensors working together.
Good to know and thanks for the info. -)
From what Marco said the WalkOVR relies on torso sensor to determine direction. Jump atm from the update is Keyboard supported mode only if mem serves.
Hi Marco Balletta,
We tried, but couldn’t make it in November. One of the processes in the 2nd week of November postponed to 3rd week, and chain reaction caused the processes like packaging, pre-shipment testing etc. postponed to this week.
If everything works as expected, we are planning to start shipping on:
Thursday, December 5th.
Yes, this time, I share a specific day, fingers always crossed.
Next, based on your backer ID, you will get a pre-shipment verification mail for the last time. Then you’ll receive your WalkOVR.
Quest Link - Tested and Verified
I have never waited for a cable with such longing.
We tested and verified that WalkOVR is working with SteamVR games played on Quest through Link.
Tested with Pavlov VR, further tests are always necessary.
Don’t forget to Buy a Bluetooth Dongle
This is Important.
As stated on our campaign pages, a Bluetooth dongle is necessary, especially for our desktop users, to use WalkOVR. If you are on a desktop and still don’t have any Bluetooth dongle, you need one.
Bluetooth modules of specific devices such as HTC Vive do not work since they work with ‘only’ their own devices.
Any dongle is ok, some models we tested starts at $10 - $15 range.
Just try not to get an extremely cheap one.
If you are a Laptop user, you are good to go; however, we still suggest you buy a dongle.
I’ll tell you why.
Free USB Extension Cable for all our backers
Because Bluetooth doesn’t like metal and the human body,
So when you are facing back to your PC, the Bluetooth signal interferes not only with the surrounding metal but also with your own body, and it may cause problems.
We did lots of tests and eventually decided to provide you with an extension cable for free.
By this extension cable, you can position your Bluetooth dongle looking at you during your gameplay.
So you can play your games in 3 to 5 meters range, rather than 1 to 1.5 meters.
Jumping is now available in Keyboard Mode
We are trying to add new movements to your experience.
As you already know, you can walk/run in place, bend, strafe, move backward, and move cross directions with WalkOVR.
Thanks to WalkOVR’s upper body guidance: You don’t need to stop moving to strafe during your gaming, or you can quickly move all directions, cross directions included.
Now we included jumping in keyboard mode.
We keep testing it in native VR mode and include it in the next release with game profiles.
Crouch walking is next (It is not a promise though).
Yes, there are hilarious moments in our office while developing & testing… things…
Why is Jumping only in keyboard mode for now?
Some games behave differently from one headset to another. Therefore we have to change WalkOVR behavior temporarily for that specific headset and game. We do it through game profiles.
However, game profiles won’t be in the initial release you’ll get soon.
Because of the manufacturing, we want to be sure everything works as planned and we want to do some further tests.
Our highest priority is currently manufacturing and shipping your products.
“Jumping” we mentioned above is implemented only in keyboard mode for that reason.
I guess it is better to share our roadmap of next software releases:
‘Game Profiles’ is going to be in the next release
Decoupling is going to be available within the same release with game profiles or maybe just after that one.
SDK and VRChat Mocap is going to be available in 2020
So, this is the end of another long mail. If you have any question or confusion please let us know via email@example.com . Your feedback is extremely important anytime.
We love you
Your fellow gamer
Hey thanks for sharing this Marco… I was not a backer so I am not in the loop as to news from WalkOVR, I am going to review the tech for Tugra when they start to ship. I also just got word from Mechatech that they will be sending me a system soon as well so I look forward to comparing them. -)
That is fantastic news! Look forward to your pending reviews.
Great! Looking forward to your thoughts.
I should have soon both the walkovr and agilevr. The walkovr should be shipped to me in a few days. The agilevr too.
I think that walkovr will have more versatile use than agilevr, at the moment.
I think that agilevr works only in vr for now and not in regular pc games and not in console games. I hope they will make both the above work soon. I will do my testings too and i already asked them is they would look into add conpatibility for regular pc games and console games , if it is not there.
I think walkovr will be also more verastile of katloco.
The only reason why walkovr will not fully shut my being picky of locomotion, is because i prefer the use of legs for lateral and backward movements, other than using the chest as walkovr do. But walkovr will have it all other than that.
Katloco’s software, at the moment , is not fully developed.
Walkovr, also will not have its software fully ready, but i am sure that walkovr will already have right now functions that works, where instead katloco has not yet.
Thanks man… I’m looking forward to doing them and to posting more here! -)
That’s awesome Marco… I look forward to hearing more of your thoughts as well… Maybe we can compare notes once both systems are received. -)
Sure. Thank you so much!
Just received but i have not tested it yet. Long day at work
Need to test also a way to make it wireless.
Ok! An update.
I was able to make the agilevr wireless using the same method I have used for making the psvr aim controller wireless and that i took from who made the hardlight vest wireless
This is the method used for the hardlight suit that will work also for the agilevr
Physical equipment needed Mini USB Powered Router: http://a.co/d/5nOLFPu Battery Pack: (any battery pack with 1 USB for mini router, and 1 AC plug for suit will work) http://a.co/d/3rWK5fU You may want a shorter USB Cable like this one: http://a.co/d/buARn6Y Velcro straps, pouch or some method of attaching the battery pack, mini router and cables to the HardLight Suit Install and test the Hardlight VR suit via wired to confirm everything is working. Software needed Download VirtualHere “Server” https://www.virtualhere.com/sites/def… This is the image you will be installing on the mini router Download VirtualHere “Client” (this is for the 64bit version of Windows) and install it https://www.virtualhere.com/sites/def… Setup Mini Router: (please familiarize yourself with the mini router docs that came with the mini router, or are available here: https://static.gl-inet.com/www/upload… Proceedure Plug in and power up mini router Connect to the mini router via Wi-Fi or LAN For Wi-Fi: Find Wi-Fi with SSID “GL-XXXXX-xxx” Password is goodlife (SSID and password also on bottom of router) For LAN: Just plug into LAN Port on Router Once connected to mini router Connect to http://192.168.8.1 with browser to setup router Update the firmware on mini router by going to Firmware then Upload Firmware Navigate to where you downloaded the VirtualHere “Server” image and install it (Next are excerpts from this site: https://www.virtualhere.com/hardware) The device will reboot and a WiFi network called CloudHub_xxxxxx (where xxxxxx is a unique number) will appear Join the network with your WiFi card on your client pc. (Default wifi password is: cloudhub66 ) Start the VirtualHere client and the CloudHub will automatically appear listed after 15-30 sec Plug the Hardlight Suit into the USB port on the mini router, making sure the Hardlight Suit has power (either battery pack or wall) It should show up in the VirtualHere Client You can now test the Hardlight Suit before proceeding, right click the HardLight Icon in the notifications area and select “Test Everything” Once the operation is confirmed, it’s time to put the mini router USB server on local Wi-Fi In the VirtualHere Client, right click on “CloudHub xxxxx” and select “Properties” Change the, “I want this CloudHub to be:” from “standalone” to “part of an existing network” Enter your local Wi-Fi credentials The Hardlight Suit should now show up in the VirtualHere Client when you are on your local network, wireless or wired. Got mine as well but the right knee joint broke the first time I tried to crouch… Replacement is on the way so I hope it is just a one off! -(
Very cool… never would have thought of this!
Sorry to hear that
I hope mine will endure.
Were you able to test in games?
I am doing something wrong when lunching the game because i am not moving. I will be doing some more testing during the weekend and hopefullynincan figure out what i am doing wrong otherwise on monday i will have help from the support
Nope… I was putting it on my legs for the first time and the hinge point on the right leg busted completely the minute I bent my knee! I talked to Mechatech and they said this has never happened and that they are sending me a replacement, so for now I will give them the benefit of the doubt. Hopefully
I will have the new unit sometime next week and can finally test it out. -(
I hope it is not a weak spot based on the mechanic of the device .
